The Paypal API for android mobile devices is a library to quickly get started accepting payments on mobile devices for physical goods, services, donations and personal payments. Payment is completely integrated–users can provide the financial information necessary to complete a transaction without leaving your app.

In this podcast, Anthony Hicks and Stephen Naughton demonstrate the Paypal API for android mobile devices.

The Cycle Hire Widget is available to download for free from Android Market. It works by displaying the 3 nearest cycle hire places to you and how far away from them you are. The Cycle Hire Widget also confirms if cycles are available at these three locations. There is also a flag status system to confirm other criteria such as closed, no cycle spaces available and cycles low.
In this podcast, Reuben Harris talks more on the Cycle Hire Widget.

Anselm Garbe is currently working for Aplix Corporation as a software developer for mobile devices. In this talk is covering about his work implementing w3c widgets on android. In this presentation he has shown different scopes of aplix widget runtime followed by a demo of Aplix Web Runtime for w3c widgets running on android, which can add w3c widgets to the home screen, running them in a widget manager application and even wrapping them up as regular Android application. Anselm also talks about different standards and approaches of device api’s, functionality of join innovation lab(jil) and of what components aplix widget runtime comprises .

by Gabor Paller

Pipes has emerged in the web programming allowing fast a composition of existing services. In this programming model, applications consume and produce feeds (generally in RSS format). As the format is uniform and purely string-based, they can be combined by simple operations, much like Unix pipes.

In this presentation, I will use the Android LiveFolder construct to build a similar model inside the Android device. Even though the project is in prototype phase, I hope it can inspire others to experiment with this programming paradigm.

Our Innovation Unit finds technical, service and business solutions to access to information issues experienced by blind and partially sighted people.

RNIB strategy has been informed by talking to blind and partially sighted people about what their everyday concerns and frustrations are.
by Akshay Dashrath

Performance is an issue with programming on the Android platform because of various reasons such as constrained resources and the extra abstraction layer in the form of the Dalvik Virtual Machine.

In order to gauge the performance of applications written for the Android platform we have several tools. This talk briefly outlines performance analysis using the TraceView tool provided in the SDK as well as analysing heap dumps of the Dalvik VM.

Developers Andreas Reuterberg and Alex Shaw discuss the realities and possibilities for the world of mobile music and audio creation on Android. They will draw on and share their own practical experience with realtime DSP, interface design and embedded software to demonstrate the new opportunities given to musicians and programmers by the Android platform.
